Fable 4 has apparently been ongoing for the past four years, according to a developer at Playground Games.

The revelation was made through a candid tweet by Tom “deltaflux” last Friday. “4 years of working on Fable at @WeArePlayground. So excited for this game,” reads the tweet. It is accompanied by a picture of a certificate from PlayGround Games, thanking him for his years of service.

Tom didn't elaborate more on this, but it's safe to assume that most of those four years were spent laying down the groundwork for the game. Since the closing of Lionhead Studios, the original creators of Fable, Microsoft Game Studios has since taken over the franchise. The reigns to the series have been given to Playground Games ever since, the creators of the critically acclaimed Forza Horizon series. With Forza Horizon 5, we've seen how Playground Games does open-world. By using the same engine for Fable 4, we're sure to get amazing visuals and luscious environments and landscapes. Meanwhile, Playground Games will also have to retrofit a lot of assets to fit a third-person role-playing game. Regardless, we do hope that even with the change in hands, Fable would not lose its identity in Fable 4. Given these recent developments, we'd expect Fable 4‘s release date to come no sooner than Q4 2022.
