The NFL season is quickly progressing with eight weeks being completed now. In Week 8, there were quite a few quarterbacks who performed well in fantasy football, which makes for some intriguing start 'em sit 'em options.

At the top, Daniel Jones led all quarterbacks with 28.2 fantasy points against the Detroit Lions in Week 8. The rookie signal-caller didn't come out with the win but he likely helped a few people win their fantasy matchup this past week.

Who could be the surprising quarterback to help you secure a win in Week 9? Before we figure that out, all of the picks in this article are based on PPR (points per reception) scoring and can be used in season-long or DFS (daily fantasy sports) leagues.

Without further ado, here are the start 'em sit 'em quarterbacks in fantasy football in Week 9.

QBs to Start in Week 9

Lions' Matthew Stafford (vs. Raiders): Matthew Stafford has always been a reliable option in fantasy and he's showing that again in 2019. The Detroit Lions' quarterback has scored 23 or more points in three out of his last four games.

The veteran quarterback has a good chance of producing again against an Oakland Raiders defense that struggles to stop the pass. The Raiders have allowed 23.7 fantasy points per game to QBs to begin the season (second-most in the NFL).

Jaguars' Gardner Minshew (vs. Texans): Of all of the quarterbacks, not many have been as consistent as Gardner Minshew. Aside from a 4.6-point performance in Week 6 versus the New Orleans Saints, the rookie quarterback has had at least 16 points in every single week.

The Jacksonville Jaguars' backup quarterback will get a favorable matchup against the Houston Texans in Week 9. The Texans are coming off of a game where they surrendered 23.4 fantasy points to Derek Carr this past Sunday.

49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo (vs. Cardinals): The San Francisco 49ers are 7-0 but Jimmy Garoppolo has yet to consistently show he can lead the offense. In terms of fantasy, Garoppolo has only had one week of scoring more than 20 points this season.

Luckily for Tom Brady's former backup, he will get a chance to perform well versus a hapless Arizona Cardinals defense. The Cardinals defense has given up 2,372 passing yards and 20 passing touchdowns (both the most in the NFL).

Other QBs to Start: Bills' Josh Allen (vs. Redskins), Raiders' Derek Carr (vs. Lions), Jets' Sam Darnold (vs. Dolphins), Vikings' Kirk Cousins (vs. Chiefs)

QBs to Sit in Week 9

Cardinals' Kyler Murray (vs. 49ers): Kyler Murray has put together an impressive rookie campaign in 2019. The Cardinals' No. 1 overall pick is the eighth highest-scoring quarterback in fantasy with 143.4 points.

As good as he's been so far, it's hard to deny the talent of the 49ers' defense. San Francisco's defense has only allowed 6.1 fantasy points per game to QBs (second-best in the NFL). Only the New England Patriots have been better.

Browns' Baker Mayfield (vs. Broncos): The Cleveland Browns are a mess and until they fix their issues; there's no reason to trust Baker Mayfield. The second-year quarterback has been outscored by Marcus Mariota up to this point.

The only thing is, Mariota was benched by the Tennessee Titans two weeks ago. To make matters worse, Mayfield will play at Mile High Stadium this week to face the Denver Broncos. The Broncos have held QBs to just 10.4 points so far (third-best in the NFL).

Giants' Daniel Jones (vs. Cowboys): After four straight weeks of struggling, Daniel Jones was finally able to impress again in Week 8. The Duke product scored 28.2 points to lead all quarterbacks in fantasy this past week.

Before Sunday's game against the Raiders, he had posted four consecutive games of scoring fewer than 11 points. On top of that, he will square off against a Dallas Cowboys defense that has given up just six passing touchdowns (tied for third-fewest in the NFL).
