We haven't gotten a new game from the FATAL FRAME franchise, and that's not going to change anytime soon. But at the very least, Koei Tecmo is giving us a remastered version of their latest title, FATAL FRAME: Maiden of Blackwater.

FATAL FRAME is a Japanese survival horror game that lets you exorcise ghosts using a Camera Obscura. Simply put, you take pictures of ghosts to defeat them. The series is known for its chilling vibe. It takes a lot of guts to look ghosts in the eye and take pictures of them. However, that's a necessity, as you can't investigate and find out the truth about the mysteries in the game with haunting ghosts at your tail, right?

It makes sense that Koei Tecmo approached Nintendo to have the announcement trailer played during Nintendo Direct at E3 2021, even if the game will come out on other platforms as well. After all, the original FATAL FRAME: Maiden of Blackwater came out on the Wii U in 2014. That was the latest title in the franchise so far. Apart from the Nintendo Switch, FATAL FRAME: Maiden of Blackwater will also be released on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and on PC sometime later this year.

FATAL FRAME: Maiden of Blackwater takes place in the Hikami Mountains, a place where many people come to die. It's infamous for suicides and spiritual happenings around local bodies of water. Shrine maidens used to help guide people to peaceful deaths here, but they'd later be sacrificed to the Black Water, a malevolent spirit that is behind the deaths around the mountain. You play as three characters: Yuri Kozukata, Ren Hojo, and Miu Hinasaki. Each one has their own reasons for coming to the Hikami Mountains, and it's up to you to help them uncover its secrets.
