The Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers began their ‘Battle for Alberta' on Wednesday night in their Western Conference Semifinal series. In what turned out to be one of the craziest games in recent Stanley Cup playoff history, things got very chirpy during the third period.

Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk and Oilers forward Evander Kane got into it after the play. Tkachuk then simply asked the embattled star from Edmonton “You want some money?”

Tkachuk is of course referencing the fact that Evander Kane filed for bankruptcy last year. Professional Bank, the lender, sued Kane for defrauding the company in an attempt to gain a loan for $1.5 million.

Kane has long been one of the most hated players in the NHL. He and his estranged wife just last year dropped restraining orders against one another following a domestic violence incident. With so much drama surrounding the talented forward, Kane found himself without a team to begin the year. However, the Oilers eventually took a chance on him.

He rewarded them with 22 goals and 39 points in 42 games played.

In Game 1 vs. the Flames, Calgary jumped out early, scoring two goals in the first minute of the game. They would eventually build a 5-1 lead in the second period. But Edmonton did not go away, coming all the way back to tie the game 6-6 in the third period.

That's when Tkachuk went to work, scoring his second and third goals of the game, securing a hat trick and a 9-6 victory. If Game 1 is any indication of what's to come, this series is going to be fun to watch.

No team from Canada has won the Stanley Cup since the Montreal Canadiens in 1993. The winner of the ‘Battle for Alberta' guarantees one team in the conference final.
