The Calgary Flames earned the second seed in the Western Conference playoffs after an outstanding regular season. That was almost all for naught, as it took overtime in Game 7 to dispatch the Dallas Stars in the opening round. If some people thought that would create some doubt with the team, they were very wrong.

In Game 1 of the Flames' Western Conference Semifinal series against the Edmonton Oilers, they came out flying. Flames center Elias Lindholm scored just 26 seconds into the game. That sent the crowd in Calgary into a frenzy, but that was just the beginning. Just 25 seconds later, the Flames doubled their lead on a goal from Andrew Mangiapane.

That is the fastest two goals from one team in NHL Playoff history, as ESPN Stats & Info retweeted.

The Flames did not stop there either. Just a few minutes later, Brett Ritchie scored unassisted giving Calgary a 3-0 lead. That prompted Edmonton to pull goalie Mike Smith for Mikko Koskinen. To the Oilers credit, they bounced right back as Connor McDavid then scored his fifth goal of these playoffs.

Calgary got right back to it in the second period though. Flames forward Blake Coleman scored just 45 seconds into the second period. He later added a second goal as the home team built what appears to be an insurmountable lead. The Oilers have since added a goal, with McDavid picking up his 11th assist of the playoffs.

But if Edmonton is going to have any chance in this series, they are going to need more than just their top line playing well against Calgary.
