The Philadelphia Flyers participated in a blockbuster trade with the Florida Panthers last week with Claude Giroux as the headliner. In exchange for their longtime captain, Philadelphia acquired Owen Tippett, a 2024 first-round pick, and a 2023 third-round pick.

Rumors and reports on the trade circulated for weeks before the deal was officially announced on Sunday. The teams made the agreement right before the 2022 NHL trade deadline on Monday. Shortly after arriving in Florida, Giroux offered his Philadelphia fans a bit of closure.

The former captain thanked his fans “for absolutely everything” and promised that a more formal goodbye would come at a later date. He tweeted the message to Flyers fans Tuesday afternoon.

Giroux finished the tweet with a picture of him and his son at his final Flyers game. Philadelphia honored Giroux before, during, and after his 1,000th game last Thursday. The orange and black pulled off a 5-4 win over the Nashville Predators on a night that Giroux will certainly never forget.

While Giroux will always carry a piece of Philadelphia with him, fans will never forget the impact he made with the Flyers. The team selected Giroux 22nd overall in the 2006 NHL Draft. Giroux spent his entire, 15-year career with the Flyers and the last ten as the team's captain.

In those 15 years, he became a seven-time NHL All-Star, 2018 NHL Second All-Star, and was named the NHL All-Star MVP in 2022.
