Fred Hoiberg has a new toy with him when the season begins in less than three months.

After giving it a shot with Derrick Rose leading the attack for the Chicago Bulls last season, Hoiberg now has a different type of court general, and a former NBA champion at that, in Rajon Rondo.

It’s no secret that the Bulls are now looking to play at a faster pace and shoot more threes. Hoiberg sees Rondo being very helpful in that aspect as he can definitely push the ball and find his teammates for open shots.

In an interview with Vincent Goodwill for CSN Chicago, the second-year coach harped on Rondo’s fit to the style that he is looking to run for the Bulls.

“Rondo is a point guard who I think will thrive in the system we like to run and then to get Dwyane, we didn’t have to give up any of the young pieces in the process. We’re able to stay competitive with players with championship experience. To pair those two guys with Jimmy Butler, it’ll be a dynamic and exciting backcourt.”

Although he’s not going to be hitting threes as often as other point guards do, his ability to make plays for his teammates should be more than enough for Hoiberg to see the ball move around.

Rondo may be ball-dominant but when he has the ball, he is always looking to make things happen for his teammates. He will have the luxury of having a very explosive wing tandem in Jimmy Butler and Dwyane Wade whom he can feed as often as possible.

Rajon Rondo played very well last season wherein he averaged 11.9 points, six rebounds, 11.7 assists, and two steals per ballgame. There's no reason why those stats will see a dip this year.
