Coco Gauff's dreams of winning the 2022 French Open women's singles tournament came to an end Saturday, as she fell prey to world no. 1 Iga Swiatek to the tune of a 1-6, 3-6 score. While that loss definitely stings and will hurt for days to come for Gauff, that did not stop the 18-year-old American tennis star from showering her conqueror at Roland Garros.

Via WTA Insider:

Coco Gauff to Iga Swiatek: “What you’ve done on tour the past couple of months has truly been amazing and you totally deserve it. Hopefully we can play each other in more finals and I can get a win over you one of these days.”

Swiatek dropped just one set during her fantastic 2022 French Open run. She beat the likes of Jessica Pegula, Daria Kasatkina before her showdown with Gauff, whom the Polish had already defeated twice before. As for Gauff, she also had an impressive showing at Roland Garros, notwithstanding her loss to Swiatek. The future is definitely bright for Gauff, who will look to build on her first-ever appearance at a grand slam final going forward in her career.

With two more grand slam events left this year, Gauff still has a shot at becoming an 18-year-old major champion, as she won't turn  19 until March of 2023.
