Indiana “Froskurinn” Black announced her departure from the LEC a little over a week away from the next season. The 2021 LEC Spring Split kicks off on January 22, 2021, but it will do so without a talented member of the broadcast team. The announcement follows Froskurinn's initial decision to explore freelance options after Worlds 2020.

A different path

Froskurinn announced back in November that her contract with Riot Games had expired. The talented color commentator intended to explore freelance options following the closing of League of Legend's first ten years. Unfortunately, Froskurinn came out 17 days later claiming that “free agency was a mistake.”

There has been no doubt a shortage of functioning esports leagues and events due to the ongoing global pandemic. One could argue that going freelance during such a rocky situation was ill-advised but Froskurinn soldiered on.

Froskurinn famously garnered attention as a knowledgeable member of the LPL broadcast team in China. Subsequently, she transferred to the LEC in 2019 up until the end of the 2020 season. Froskurinn made it clear that she can't reveal any of her future plans. However, she strongly hinted at a possible transition into management and development positions.

Given Froskurinn's vast mastery of the game and the history of its players, any team would be lucky to add her to its management or coaching staff. There's no telling which team Froskurinn could potentially join. She could potentially make a valiant return to the LPL in order to help a Chinese team make a bid for the region's third Summoner's Cup. Regardless of her actual plans, Froskurinn didn't explicitly state that she would be stepping away from professional League of Legends.
