MiHoYo is planning to release announcements and details about an upcoming Genshin Impact expansion this Friday, July 9, 2021. This will be the first expansion for the game, which will bring more new content compared to other content drops in the past.

However, what exactly we're getting from the purported Genshin Impact v2.0 isn't clear yet. We're sure that it will be coming as part of the game's one-year anniversary celebration. But apart from that, we don't have a clear release window on when this expansion will be coming out. Given the supposed scale of the new expansion, it might take longer than the usual new version update.

As for the content we're getting, we just have to wait until this Friday to get official news from miHoYo. In the meantime, we can refer to Genshin Impact leaks to have a slight idea of what we're getting.

Genshin Impact v2.0 leaks and rumors

Returning leaker Genshin Report has a couple of new information for us to unpack here. First off, the leaker reiterates that the Inazuma characters leaked and later announced officially will be coming in Genshin Impact v2.0. Expedition details have also been revealed, which will let players farm Seagrass, Sunsettia, and Lavender Melons.

In terms of story, Genshin Report says that Inazuma's story will be the most political yet. “The world will be divided by both water and ideals,” says a tweet. Speaking of Inazuma's geography, there will be a total of six, but the Genshin Impact v2.0 update will only bring three islands. The rest will be coming in patches through 2022. This might rule out any other regions unlocking in the near future.

Finally, and perhaps the most important news is that Genshin Impact version 2.0 might be bringing in PlayStation cross-save functionality with other platforms. This is an important development, as previously, PlayStation saves don't like playing with others. Genshin Report says this cross-save functionality might come to the Switch, whenever that version comes out.
