Gorou has somewhat been anticipated for quite some time, thanks to his early appearance in the Inazuma Archon story quest. Early leaks have shown Gorou to be a Geo Bow user, and it was confirmed to be true after Genshin Impact tweeted the official teaser art. As the general of the Watatsumi Army, Gorou’s supportive skill set fits his background, keeping morale high and buffing his team’s offense and defense. He might not be a versatile support that can work with other elements, but his abilities can drastically improve the performance of all Geo-centric teams.

Gorou Leaks Overview and Gameplay Leaks

Gorou’s skills and animations are now revealed thanks to the leaks, and we can begin to assume how he performs in combat, and which team compositions Gorou is ideal in.

Elemental Skill: Deploys a war banner that provides buffs based on the number of Geo party members. One Geo member grants a DEF bonus, two grants resistance to interruption, and three grants Geo DMG bonus. Only one war banner can exist at a time.

Elemental Burst: Destroys any existing war banner during the duration, but creates a large field that moves with the active character. This field acts exactly like the Elemental Skill’s war banner, but additionally deals periodic Geo DMG to one opponent within its AoE. The active character will also pull and absorb Crystallize shards created within the field.

Talent 1: All party members’ DEF is increased by 25% during his Elemental Burst.

Talent 2: Gorou’s Elemental Skill and Burst gains additional damage based on his DEF.

Gorou’s kit is definitely geared towards mono-Geo teams, and is not too useful on comps outside of it. The strength is still there, though, as he can significantly augment the stats of other Geo characters, like Itto and Albedo. Providing a sizable buff to DEF and Geo DMG is great even for Noelle, and having constant shields from his Burst is a great way to mitigate a lot of incoming chip damage.

Certain constellations of Gorou are extremely powerful, and pulling for multiple copies of Gorou is a wise investment for players with Geo teams. The first two constellations are slight upgrades to his abilities’ uptime, and his party members will surely enjoy the ‘permanent’ buffs he provides. Gorou’s C4 turns him into a very strong healer that a mono-Geo team certainly lacks, which makes this almost essential. His C6 is broken like Sara Kujou’s, and Geo teams will love having 40% more Crit DMG that’s practically free and permanent.

Gorou Ascension Materials and Details

Gorou ascension and talent farming materials from Genshin_Impact_Leaks

All of Gorou’s ascension materials already exist in the current game version of 2.2, which makes things a lot easier when he finally arrives in-game. However, players who plan to pull for Gorou might have to start pre-farming certain materials, since they are either scarce, or very annoying to obtain. One of his character ascension materials is the Perpetual Heart, which can be obtained from defeating the Perpetual Mechanical Array. Another one is the Sango Pearl, which takes 168 pieces to fully upgrade Gorou. There are only 44 Sango Pearls in Inazuma, and it takes 48 hours for them to replenish, which takes around 8 long days to obtain enough of them.

The common requirement for his talent and character ascensions are the Spectral Husks, which are dropped by Specters found throughout Inazuma. They are abundant, but extremely annoying to defeat due to their floating nature. Without strong ranged characters like Ganyu and Yoimiya, defeating them is no easy task, especially when you’re trying to farm hundreds of them every day.

The other materials are shown in the infographic shown above, and can be easily farmable at the moment.

Please take this info with a grain of salt, since it is the nature of leaks to be not 100% accurate. However, leaks like these are generally considered as reliable, and only minor changes can happen due to the beta testing.
