The New York Giants weren't necessarily shopping star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. around the league, but one team, in particular, caught their attention in trade talks.

That team was the Cleveland Browns, who ultimately ended up acquiring Beckham for the 17th overall draft pick, a third-rounder, and young safety Jabrill Peppers last week.

Giants general manager Dave Gettleman reiterated that New York did not sign Beckham just to trade him, but that when the Browns called and made their offer, Gettleman couldn't say no:

“We didn’t sign Odell to trade him, but things change,” Gettleman said, according to the Giants' official Twitter account. “Another team made an offer we couldn’t refuse.”

Gettleman then added that he understood why many are questioning the Giants' decision but that everyone should exercise patience and wait to see how things shape up down the line:

“I completely understand why people would debate the merits of this deal,” he said. “This trade really won’t be able to be fully evaluated until we get further down the road. We did not enter this decision to trade Odell lightly.”

Of course, whenever you trade a 26-year-old wideout in the prime of their career, people are going to have questions.

Beckham, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was originally selected by the Giants in the first round (12th pick overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. He went on to make the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons with the team, but the last two years, Beckham has played in just 16 games combined due to injuries.
