The New York Giants steady descent to Nowheresville continued Sunday, as they lost a road game to the Oakland Raiders, 24-17. The setback worsened their record to 2-10, but the game will mostly be remembered as the first in the franchise’s last 211 regular season games in which a quarterback not named Eli Manning started for the team.

New York's decision to start Geno Smith over Manning caused a massive brouhaha. It did not sit well with plenty of people, especially among those within the camp of the Giants, who have many ex-players voicing out their displeasure about what they thought of as a disrespectful move to the two-time Super Bowl champion signal-caller.

Things can even get messier next week when the Giants return home to play the Dallas Cowboys.

According to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, a number of former players are planning to watch the Giants take on Dallas while donning Eli Manning jerseys.

The Giants’ management doesn’t have control of whatever these ex-Giants want to wear next week. At the very least, it could talk them down into not pushing through with their plans, which could further stimulate the emotions of an already heated Giants fan base that’s still coming to grips of Manning handing down the quarterbacking duties to Smith.

If anything, Smith didn’t embarrass himself that much in the Raiders game, as he went 21-of-34 with a touchdown with zero interceptions. The former New York Jets quarterback, however, lost two fumbles.
