Eli Manning is under contract with the New York Giants for one more year, so it would probably behoove the Giants to find a replacement as soon as possible.

Not to worry, Giants fans, it's probably going to happen promptly.

According to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur said the team would prefer to find Manning's successor “sooner rather than later” and would like that young quarterback to learn under Manning for a year.

That is an indication that the Giants absolutely plan on drafting a signal-caller with the sixth overall pick next month, and the general consensus is that New York is going to end up taking Ohio State's Dwayne Haskins if he is available.

The Giants have also expressed some interest in Missouri quarterback Drew Lock.

New York seems prepared to follow the Kansas City Chiefs' model, where Patrick Mahomes spent his rookie campaign being mentored by veteran Alex Smith before the Chiefs turned the reins over to Mahomes in his second season, trading Smith to the Washington Redskins to make room for him.

The result turned out pretty good, as Mahomes went on to win the MVP award while leading Kansas City to 12 wins and an AFC Championship Game appearance this past season.

The Giants are coming off a 2018 campaign in which they won just five games. New York has made just one playoff appearance since last winning the Super Bowl in 2012.
