Madison Bumgarner is one of the best pitchers of this generation and arguably the best postseason pitcher of all-time. Despite missing significant time over the last two seasons, the San Francisco Giants have said that Bumgarner is part of their plan moving forward.

Farhan Zaidi, Giants’ President of Baseball Operations, said on KNBR that “nobody is making any outgoing calls on Madison Bumgarner,”  per Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle. He also stressed that if they receive any calls about players, they will listen. Jon Morosi linked Bumgarner to the Milwaukee Brewers, but nothing was said about it. The thought of adding Bumgarner to that current roster in Milwaukee should have fans salivating.

Bumgarner made 30 or more starts from 2011 to 2016 but these past two seasons have seen him make just 38 starts combined. He went 10-16 in those starts. It has been five years since the left-hander grabbed the World Series MVP. During that postseason run, Bumgarner went 4-1 and struck out 47 batters in 52.1 innings.

Zaidi stressed that Bumgarner is a “central cog” for the Giants attempting to be competitive in 2019 but the possibilities of that are low. With the current state of this Giants’ team, it would benefit them to try and squeeze any remaining value out of Bumgarner. The 29-year-old hurler can make an immediate impact on a team that is ready to contend for a championship.

If there is any move made, it will likely happen in the upcoming weeks before pitchers and catchers report to spring training.
