It has been nothing short of an intriguing offseason for the New York Giants concerning the long-term future of star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. There is much uncertainty about what direction that team plans to head with him next season and beyond that.

This has begun to leak over into the deeper portion of offseason with the organization nearing team-oriented activities. With that in mind, quarterback Eli Manning has held his annual team workouts at the University of Duke that had Beckham Jr. notably absent from it, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

Odell Beckham isn’t present in any of those social media posts and is thought to be in Los Angeles rehabbing his ankle. He missed last year’s session after having oral surgery before skipping the team’s voluntary offseason work. There’s been talk that he’ll follow the same plan this offseason, although Beckham has not made any pronouncements about his intentions.

Although Beckham Jr. wasn't present at the unofficial team gathering, what should be noted that he is still recovering from the broken ankle that he suffered last season. He is working through his own rehab process that is different than what the rest of the team that showed up to Manning's organized team workout session. Beckham Jr. was also not at this last year as he had undergone oral surgery.

This time around there is more scrutiny as the 25-year-old has found himself in the middle of trade rumors for the first time in his career. He is also on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract, which has pushed the conversation of a new extension to the forefront as well alongside the recent viral video that displayed him possibly conducting in some illegal drug use.

The longer there remains no action by the team to either move on or re-sign him this offseason, it will stay a prevalent topic of discussion around New York. Ultimately, these next few weeks could be telling of what the Giants intend to do with their star wideout.
