Brittney Griner's situation in Russia is going from bad to worse. On Thursday, it was reported that the WNBA star had pleaded guilty to drug charges in Russia and is now facing up to 10 years in prison. Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant is well aware of the developments in Griner's case, and he just had to send a special shoutout for the Phoenix Mercury center amid her troubling situation.

Griner's wife, Cherelle, recently spoke with United States President Joe Biden in a desperate plea to free Brittney. Morant shared the story on his own Twitter feed, while also sending a simple, yet strong message for Griner:

In a statement released by a representative of vice president Kamala Harris, who herself joined the president during his meeting with Cherelle, it was revealed that the government had reassured Cherelle that they are continually “working to secure Brittney's release as soon as possible.” The statement also stressed how Griner, along with other Americans, have been “wrongfully detained or held hostage in Russia.”

For his part, Ja Morant is one of the most outspoken NBA personalities on Twitter. The Grizzlies point guard also happens to be one of the most popular sports figures on the platform, amassing no less than 2.2 million followers on his account. It's great to see how Morant is using his platform to speak out about relevant social issues such as this one, so as to spread awareness to the millions of fans who care about what he says or does on social media.
