Dejounte Murray isn't lacking in sources of motivation entering his first season with the Atlanta Hawks. Following his trade from the San Antonio Spurs and a string of recent social media activity that drew the ire of his former fan base, there's a lot to take inspiration from to say the least.

Murray didn't stay quiet about the haters, putting forth a tweet that fans some of the flames quite a bit:

“Heats Should MOTIVATE You….,” said Dejounte Murray on Twitter.

A handful of Spurs fans grew irate with their ex-star point guard after he had sent out a tweet followed by several Instagram comments that felt like shade to his previous organization. Dejounte quickly deleted the tweet, but not before a few voices spoke out against him.

Dejounte Murray had one of the biggest breakouts of the season in 2021-22, finishing as a finalist for the Most Improved Player award while nearly averaging a triple-double and making his first All-Star Game. He averaged 21.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 9.2 assists as the primary facilitator and playmaker of the Spurs offense.

But the challenge after finally getting to that upper echelon of talent is in making sure you stay there and prove you belong by adding to your body of work. It's going to be a challenge to approach his production from the previous campaign as he now falls behind in the pecking order behind Atlanta's Trae Young. But given his all-around abilities, there's a path for him to still maintain his star status while playing off his new dynamic teammate.
