On Friday evening prior to the Atlanta Hawks' home game against the Philadelphia 76ers, Atlanta officially shut down Hawks star point guard Dennis Schroder for the rest of the season due to his sprained left ankle.

The news first broke on Twitter in a tweet by lead writer and podcast host KL Chouinard of ATL and 29.

“Hawks say Dennis Schroder has a grade 2 ankle sprain after he underwent an MRI today. He is out for the remainder of the season,” Chouinard said. “The recovery time for his injury is 2 to 4 weeks.”

The Hawks also posted on their official team Twitter account with a statement regarding Schroder.

“Dennis Schröder underwent an MRI at the Emory Sports Medicine Complex. It revealed a medial bone bruise & Grade 2 left ankle sprain. The expected recovery time is 2-4 weeks and he will miss the remainder of the season,” the Hawks announced.

Considering the Hawks have a dismal 21-54 record heading into Friday night's game and just six more contests left on their schedule after tonight, this was pretty much a no-brainer to shut him down for the last two weeks of the season.

Schroder now joins shooting guard Kent Bazemore as both members of the Hawks' starting backcourt are now officially done for the season. Atlanta started guards Damion Lee and Isaiah Taylor on Friday night against the Sixers, as guard Malcolm Delaney is still recovering from an ankle injury of his own.
