Kris Dunn has yet to make his debut with the Atlanta Hawks, and it looks like it will be quite a while until fans get a chance to see him take the court. According to the team, Dunn will be undergoing surgery on his right ankle, sidelining him indefinitely.

Dunn signed with the Hawks on a two-year deal during the offseason to bring a defensive presence at point guard alongside Trae Young and Rajon Rondo. However, a nagging knee injury kept him out to start this season.

Provided that, it is interesting to see that Dunn is undergoing surgery on his ankle and not his knee. It looks like this ankle injury stemmed from the knee issue as he rehabbed. While getting surgery is a bad sign, it remains to be seen what Dunn's timetable to return is going to be for the Hawks.

The Providence product began his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves as the No. 5 overall selection in the 2016 NBA Draft. After one year with the Timberwolves, though, Dunn was sent with Zach LaVine to the Chicago Bulls in the trade that sent Jimmy Butler to Minnesota.

In his three seasons with the Bulls, Dunn notched 10.7 points, 5.1 assists, and 1.8 steals while playing 28.1 minutes per game. Even though Rondo was brought in to run the offense for the second unit, the Hawks were expecting to use Dunn in a variety of ways.

With that being said, it is undetermined if Kris Dunn will be able to play for Atlanta at all this season. It will be worth monitoring his status after undergoing surgery on his ankle at the end of the month.
