Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks soundly defeated the best team in the NBA on Wednesday by a resounding final margin of 135 to 103, which is actually the Phoenix Suns’ worst loss of the season at 32 points. The Suns, who were coming off a back-to-back, looked listless and out-of-sorts, especially in the fourth quarter, as they were outscored by a whopping 23 points (38-15).

What is perhaps most impressive about the Hawks' win is that Young only played 26 minutes, and Clint Capela, John Collins, and Bogdan Bogdanovic all only suited up for only 23 minutes.

It was the incredibly balanced scoring that truly lifted the Hawks over the Suns, and Young’s father, Rayford Young acknowledged his son’s growth as a leader to allow his teammates to shine at the expense of his own scoring exploits.

Indeed, Young’s unselfishness as a playmaker makes him such a dynamic lead guard for the Hawks. He finished with 12 assists against the Suns. He had a reputation as a ball hog in college, leading to some experts chiding the Hawks for trading away Luka Doncic for Young and a future draft pick that became Cam Reddish. But the feisty Young has shown he can really spearhead a squad.

Against the Suns, seven Hawks scored in double figures, with Collins just missing the cut with nine points.

With their lopsided loss, the Suns fell to second place in the Western Conference after the Utah Jazz won on Wednesday. The Hawks, on the other, rose to 37-30, only a half-game back of the New York Knicks for the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference. Best believe that Trae Young is eager to do more.
