There have been so many John Collins trade rumors that it's surprising he's still on the Atlanta Hawks. Collins is still there, though, and Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer offered up a surprising detail on the power forward's trade situation in his latest batch of intel. While Collins is actually still involved in the trade talks with the San Antonio Spurs, “there doesn't appear to be any serious active trade conversation surrounding Collins” outside of the Spurs, per Fischer.

The Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers, Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets all reportedly “registered some level of interest” in Collins around the draft, but nothing came to fruition and apparently there's nothing going right now. It just seems to be San Antonio.

In those Spurs trade talks, there has been some confusion about Collins' involvement in the Dejounte Murray negotiations. Initial reporting suggested Collins was in the deal, but then other reporting claimed he wasn't and that Hawks veteran Danilo Gallinari was the main player going the other way along with three first-round picks. Fischer now says as of Tuesday Collins was back in the deal, but San Antonio is looking for four first-round picks.

There's some belief the Spurs don't have interest in taking on Collins because of his sizable salary and a desire to spend this next season tanking for Victor Wembanyama or another one of the studs at the top of the 2023 NBA Draft. This situation appears to be fluid as talks are ongoing.

Given just how often Collins has appeared in trade talks, plus rumblings of his discontent with the Hawks, it would be a bit of a shocker if he's back in Atlanta in 2022-23. However, it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot of legitimate interest right now, which is surprising for a productive 24-year-old who's not on a max deal. The Hawks don't want to just trade him for scraps, so this will be an interesting situation to continue to keep an eye on.
