Allen University athletic director Jasher Cox has announced his decision to step down from his position effective August 10, 2024. Cox will be heading to Notre Dame to take on the role of Director of Regional Development, per a post on his social media account.

In a heartfelt statement released by Allen University’s athletic department, Cox expressed his deep appreciation for the support he received during his tenure.

“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to President McNealey, our student-athletes, dedicated coaches, faculty, and staff for the honor of leading them as their athletic director,” Cox said. “The President’s cabinet and everyone involved have been exceptional partners and teammates.”

Since his arrival at Allen University in September 2021, Cox has been a pivotal figure in the university’s athletic department. Under his leadership, Allen University transitioned from NAIA membership to achieving full NCAA Division II status earlier this month—a monumental accomplishment for the institution.

Cox’s tenure at Allen University has been marked by numerous achievements. He spearheaded the creation of the nation’s second HBCU women’s wrestling team, showcasing his commitment to broadening opportunities for female athletes. Additionally, he oversaw the installation of a state-of-the-art video board inside John Hurst Adams Gymnasium and the development of a turfed practice facility, ensuring that the university’s athletes have access to top-notch facilities.

One of Cox’s notable initiatives was the introduction of an all-new digital ticketing system, further modernizing the university’s athletic operations. He also founded a professional development series for student-athletes and coaches, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and growth. Under his guidance, Allen’s varsity sports teams saw improvements in their win totals, and hundreds of student-athletes graduated, a testament to his dedication to both athletic and academic excellence.

Cox’s announcement about his new role at Notre Dame was made public via a post on his X account. “Life is short. Work somewhere awesome. My family and I are eager to move to South Bend, as I’ve taken on the role of Director of Regional Development at @NotreDame. A heartfelt thank you to Beth Graybill for guiding me through the process. I’m excited to work alongside Shaheen Goldrick and Jerry Barca and the entire development team,” he posted.
