Former NBA small forward and current Boston Celtics TV analyst Brian Scalabrine thinks the Miami Heat could sign Carmelo Anthony.

The Heat have four roster spots available. Scalabrine says Miami has always been a franchise which believes it can get the best out of a player because of its culture.

Carmelo Anthony and the Heat were linked last summer after Melo was traded by the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Atlanta Hawks and then waived by the Hawks. Anthony met with the Heat in Las Vegas. He ended up signing with the Houston Rockets to play with Chris Paul and James Harden.

Anthony played in just 10 games with the Rockets this past season before the organization exiled him. He averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds while shooting 40.5 percent from the field, 32.8 percent from beyond the arc and 68.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Melo has been a free agent since February. The Rockets traded Anthony to the Chicago Bulls, who waived the 10-time All-Star.

The Heat could sign Anthony to a minimum deal and see if president Pat Riley and head coach Erik Spoelstra can turn him into an effective NBA player again. Miami star small forward Jimmy Butler is very close friends with Anthony off the court.
