While there are not much details on Whiteside's groin injury, it did cause him to miss practice on Monday. However, it appears to be a minor setback, as the 7-footer is not expected to miss any time due to this injury.

Whiteside has been very impressive to start the new campaign. Save this minor setback, he has been injury-free thus far, and has started all three games for the Heat. In that span, the 29-year-old has averaged 10.7 points, 14.3 rebounds (tied third-best in the entire league), 1.7 blocks, and 1.3 turnovers per contest.
He has played more minutes than expected, averaging 29.0 minutes per game. This is considerably higher than his average playing time throughout last season which was only at 25.3 MPG. Given how Whiteside is such a per-36 minutes stud, his surprising increase in minutes directly translates to an uptick in production.
Nevertheless, his future with the Heat still holds a lot of question marks. Several injuries (he played in only 54 games last year), fitness concerns, and disagreements with team coaches led to a lower-than-expected outing for Whiteside last season. However, if he is able to keep up this level of production AND is able to put on the right attitude, there is no reason to doubt that the big man still has cornerstone-caliber potential.
