The Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat are reportedly in “advanced” talks about a deal centered around want-away veteran Andre Iguuodala, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Charania reported the Heat emerged as a suitor on Tuesday, and it seems Miami is ramping up their pursuit of the 2015 NBA Finals MVP as they look to add a wing defender at the deadline.

Iguodala has yet to play this season after he and the Grizzlies agreed he would sit out the season as Memphis attempt to trade him.

As David Aldridge of The Athletic previously reported, Iguodala said he was prepared to sit for the remainder of the 2019-20 season if the Grizzlies were unable to trade him to one of the “agreed-upon teams:”

The Grizzlies repeatedly suggested they would not orchestrate a buyout with Iguodala, and ESPN Senior NBA Writer Zach Lowe said on Tuesday morning they were confident in their ability to trade him prior to Thursday's deadline:

Memphis has continued to insist in talks that they will trade Iguodala, sources say, and not buy him out — a blow to the Lakers, who would love to sign him as a free agent.

As Lowe noted, the Lakers were one of the teams thought to be interested in Iguodala. The Los Angeles Clippers were reportedly in that conversation as well, though they have not generated as much buzz in Iguodala's market as of late.

In any case, Iggy would seemingly present a nice fit for the Heat. While Derrick Jones Jr. has been steady in his role as a lanky perimeter defender capable of disrupting passing lanes, Iguodala is an established defensive stopper who can also handle the ball and make plays for his teammates.
