The Miami Heat are planning to trade veteran point guard Goran Dragic this offseason.

Dragic picked up his $19.2 million contract for the 2019-20 NBA season, which will be the final year of his five-year, $85 million contract with the Heat. The move will not make Dragic a free agent this summer, giving the Heat several options in the coming months.

According to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald, Dragic opted in with the goal of remaining a Heat. However, Miami might eventually decide to part ways with the 33-year-old playmaker this offseason. His decision to exercise his option before the June 20 draft gave the team the opportunity to include him in draft-day trades.

Dragic reportedly did not get an assurance from the Heat front office that he will not be traded if he decides to opt into the final year of his contract. However, player agent Rade Filipovich feels that there is a chance Dragic will stay because team president Pat Riley “likes Goran and his character and his game.”

Dragic has played five seasons with the Heat after he was traded from the Phoenix Suns halfway through the 2014-15 NBA season. He only played 36 games last season due to injury and averaged just 13.7 points, which is his lowest point production since the 2011-12 NBA season.
