On Twitter this Friday, Goran Dragic of the Miami Heat and Marc Stein of the New York Times discussed their affinity for Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic. Dragic had told anybody who would listen about how good the European sensation would be. He had told Stein about how special his fellow Slovenian will be in the NBA.

Nobody knew how great Doncic would be coming into the league. Plenty of teams on draft night had their concerns. Would he be athletic enough? Would his skills translate to the NBA? Many people doubted how good top-European competition actually is.

Doncic has proven all his haters wrong, and then some. He's taken the NBA by storm. He has the vision of an elite playmaker while also being able to hit jumpers with ease. His fadeaway stepback three is something only a few NBA players can pull off on a nightly basis. His touch at the basket is smooth. His dribble moves are like that of a guard. He came into the NBA playing like a savvy veteran, thanks in large part to his experience playing professionally in Europe.

One the season Doncic has averaged 19.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game while shooting 43.5 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from deep. He is the leading rookie of the year candidate and will likely run away with the race, especially since his hype is only growing.

The Mavericks are 19-22 on the season and currently sit in the 13th spot of the NBA's Western Conference. They'll face off next against the Minnesota Timberwolves at home.
