Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro is the Sixth Man of the Year after dominating the voting and earning a landslide victory against Kevin Love and Cam Johnson.
According to NBA PR, Herro is the first player to win the honor with the Heat. He earned a total of 488 points behind 96 first place votes. It was almost a unanimous decision, with Love earning just three first place votes and Johnson getting one.
For what it's worth, Tyler Herro deserved the honor. The voting showed just that, and his numbers don't lie.
It was some sort of a bounce-back season for the Heat youngster after failing to live up to expectations in his second year. He has thrived in his role off the bench, averaging 20.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists during the regular season. He also shot an efficient 44.7 percent from the field including 39.9 percent from three.
In Game 1 against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday, it was also Herro who stepped up for Miami to give them the 106-92 win. The 22-year-old put up 25 points on top of seven assists to get the Heat going.
While Kevin Love and Cam Johnson both deserve to be in the conversation, Herro has simply separated himself from the race with his consistent play and high impact on the Heat.
For Miami, they will surely be hoping that it motivates their sharpshooter even more and give him more confidence, which is exactly what they need as they try to make it back to the NBA Finals.
