RUMOR: Heat prefer not to include Bam Adebayo or Tyler Herro in trade for Russell Westbrook
The Miami Heat have interest in acquiring Russell Westbrook from the Oklahoma City Thunder, but prefer not to include Bam Adebayo or Tyler Herro in a potential deal, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
The Heat and Westbrook have mutual interest. The Thunder are widely expected to trade the former MVP before the 2019-20 season starts.
The Heat and Thunder have been discussing potential combinations of players, and those specifics remain unknown. But indications are the Heat would prefer not to include Bam Adebayo or Herro. This trade would be highly appealing to the Heat if Miami can merely shed contracts of players not in its long-term plans, but it’s questionable if the Thunder would go for that.
Miami traded Hassan Whiteside to the Portland Trail Blazers because it wants to make Bam Adebayo the permanent starter at center.
Tyler Herro has had a great Summer League thus far and it wouldn’t make sense to move a promising young player for an aging Russell Westbrook, who is still one of the best players in the game, but has a lot of money owed to him over the next four years.
We’ll see how this situation plays out.
