In one moment during their game against the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters would have thrown the perfect pass to his teammate — if he was at least nine feet tall.

Waiters intended a lob pass to the short corner, but he overshot the pass and the ball ended up behind the Warriors bench. It's safe to assume that the clip below won't be part of Waiters' highlight reel.

However, the botched play fails to capture the great game posted by Waiters. In 41 minutes of action, the 27-year-old tallied 24 points (a season-high) on 47.4 percent shooting from the field, six makes from 3-point country (46.2 percent), as well as four assists, and three rebounds.

This was his 15th game for the season and first game as part of the starting five. To recall, Waiters underwent surgery in January 2018 to repair recurring problems in his left ankle.

He subsequently missed the remainder of the 2017-18 season. Come December 2018, he was sent to the Heat's G League affiliate on a rehabilitation assignment. A few days later, he made his return to the Heat roster. Slowly but surely, Waiters is getting back in shape. Once he does, errant passes like the one above should be a rare occurrence.
