Miami Heat point guard Goran Dragic was named to the NBA All-Star Game as a replacement for Cleveland Cavaliers center Kevin Love, who broke his hand and will miss up to eight weeks.
There are arguments that other Eastern Conference players should have made it over Dragic, but that's not really the point. The real point is that the opinions of those that were most proud of his selection to the All-Star Game are the ones that matter.
In this case, it's the rest of Dragic's entire team. The other Heat players were ecstatic that Dragic got a nod to the famous weekend, per Bleacher Report.
The surprise of the moment is probably the best part of that video. Heat head coach Eric Spoelstra making the announcement as if it were no big deal, and then revealing the news is classic fun tomfoolery.
But then his teammates all huddle around Dragic and cheered. In a sport that is full of giants and tough men, it's a truly touching display of camaraderie and caring for Dragic.
Dragic himself said he was getting ready for either outcome, but was thrilled when he heard the news:
“If I’m honest I have been prepared to go both. To be in it and to be not in it,” Dragic said of how he was feeling before it was clear that be was going to be named an All-Star. “Today when I found out of course I was happy. This is a lifetime experience that I’m really proud of. I’l try to do my best.”
