The Charlotte Hornets have a decision to make with regards to Willy Hernangomez. If the 25-year-old big man isn't waived by Friday, his $1.6 million dollar contract with team will become fully guaranteed.

It doesn't sound like the Hornets are interested in letting Hernangomez go, though. According to a report from Keith Smith of Yahoo Sports, Hernangomez is not expected to be waived:

Charlotte acquired Hernangomez in a trade with the New York Knicks at the 2018 trade deadline (Feb. 7). By most accounts, the Hornets have been impressed with his progression on their roster.

“We’re excited to add a player of Willy’s caliber to our team,” Hornets GM Rich Cho said after acquiring Hernangomez. “He showed last season that he can contribute when given the opportunity and we believe that the added depth he provides will benefit our frontcourt rotation.”

In his 58 appearances with the Hornets during their 2018-18 regular season, Hernangomez racked up averages of 7.3 points on 51.9 percent shooting from the field (38.5 percent from beyond the arc), 5.4 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 14.0 minutes per outing.

The Hornets finished the 2018-19 campaign with a 39-43 overall record, which left the team out of playoff contention. Hopefully, with an offseason to reboot, the team will be back in the hunt next season.
