Charlotte Hornets rookie Miles Bridges plans to participate in the Slam Dunk Contest during All-Star Weekend next month. The news, coming from Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes, isn't surprising, as Bridges has been creating highlight after highlight this season with his extraordinary dunks.

The Hornets rookie has been having a solid season, helping his team continue to move toward their goal of making the playoffs. Putting up 6.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, an assist, 0.6 blocks, and 0.5 steals while playing 19.4 minutes per game, the 12th pick of the 2018 NBA Draft has earned regular minutes with the team.

His incredible ability to dunk precedes his NBA career, however. The former Michigan State Spartan quickly became well known during his time in the NCAA for his knack for ferocious slams:

With his show-stopping ability to dunk, Miles Bridges even has potential to win the event. It wouldn’t be unheard of by any means for a first-year player to take home the award. Just last season, rookie sensation Donovan Mitchell stole the show and earned himself the trophy and some bragging rights.

It is unclear what the rest of the participating lineup will look like, though Mitchell has made it known he doesn’t plan to compete again this year. The possibility of legend Vince Carter, at 42 years old, making an appearance is still out there, though not incredibly likely. All that is known for sure is that if Miles Bridges can deliver in the contest what he does during games, he has as good a chance as anyone.
