Normally, an injured NBA player would have fans quick to offer their support for him. A lot of times also, there are those who get so irrationally angry because that injured player is on their fantasy teams.

For Charlotte Hornets guard Nicolas Batum, it’s a completely a different case.

The 6-foot-8 French international suffered a UCL injury on his elbow last week, and he’s expected to be sidelined for 6-8 weeks and despite the bad break he caught, Batum disclosed to the Associated Press that he has countrymen indulging themselves in schadenfreude.

“I know [some] people in France are happy about it; that's the sad part,” Batum said. “Really, for real. I got on stuff and people are happy, like I deserve it. … Trust me, I get those reactions on social media.”

Apparently, these fans did not like the fact that Batum passed up on the opportunity to suit up for France in the recently concluded 2017 EuroBasket.

Batum had been dedicated to the French team and said he struggled with the decision to forego international play. Following Charlotte's 36-46 season, though, he felt he needed to focus on getting the Hornets back to the playoffs — especially after receiving a $120 million contract in 2016.

France had a disappointing campaign in the EuroBasket, as it was eliminated in the first round of the knockout stages by Germany.

Batum knows this is just part of being a famous basketball personality, and his focus right now is simply on rehabilitating as fast as he could and not on creating a fake Twitter account and responding to all the vile comments directed at him on social media.

In his absence, the Hornets would likely turn to rookie Malik Monk to take over for the meantime the shooting guard starting slot.

Last season, Batum posted quality numbers of 15.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.9 assists in 77 games for the Hornets.
