Darci Khan, a prolific track athlete at Howard University, is making national headlines as she joins the WWE Next in Line program. Despite having never wrestled before, Khan is excited for the challenge.
“I actually am not nervous at all,” Khan told NBC Washington. “I feel like I would be a great wrestler. I feel like I have the dramatics. I have the skills… I want to see what it's like and how my body will do with wrestling, because it's a lot of slamming, flips, and kicking. I just want to see what that's like on my body.”
A senior at Howard, Khan is looking for a new arena to dominate. Last season, she broke three school records and made it to nationals, primarily as a hurdler.
In comes the WWE Next in Line program. The program targets collegiate athletes of all sports in hopes of developing them into professional wrestlers. Following the program, the students have a shot at a contract with the league.
Given her background of hurdles, and also gymnastics and cheerleading, Khan is more than ready for the challenge. Surprisingly, she didn't even like running track, but constant exposure and a fiery competitive spirit made her fall in love.
“My love for track came by force. My mom forced me to run track when I was in high school, and I hated it. I hated every moment of it but I happened to be good at it. I feel like everyone loves winning, so why wouldn't you fall in love with it?”
If Khan's future with wrestling is anything like her history with track, then she's sure to be a successful member of the WWE for a long time.
