The Carolina Hurricanes made the decision to ship defenseman Tony DeAngelo to the Philadelphia Flyers last Thursday, and that hasn't been sitting well with Philly sports fans, mainly because of the blueliner image off-the-ice. Nevertheless, DeAngelo is now part of the Flyers, who also got a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft along with him in a package that had Philly also sending three picks to the Hurricanes.

DeAngelo actually wanted to stay with the Hurricanes, and the feeling appeared to be mutual between him and the team, though obviously, that didn't result in a continued partnership.

Via Bill Meltzer of NHL.com:

TDA: Had a lot of discussions w/ Carolina. Was interested in staying, they were interested in keeping me. Loved playing for Rod Brind'Amour. Left it to my agent but I had a lot of mutual interest w/ the Flyers.

Right after the trade, the Flyers signed DeAngelo to a two-year deal worth $10 million. DeAngelo's addition to Philly's roster should make a significant impact on the team's play on the ice in the coming 2022-23 NHL season. DeAngelo is a fantastic two-way player, who recorded 10 goals and 41 assists in the last season with the Hurricanes.

The Flyers are entering a new chapter in the franchise's history, as they have hired John Tortorella as head coach in the offseason. They have not made the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the last two seasons and will be needing quite a turnaround to snap that streak following back-to-back campaigns in which Philadelphia did not manage to win more than 25 games.
