Following another disappointing season, the Houston Rockets are already seeing a ton of changes this off-season. Both coach Mike D'Antoni and general manager Daryl Morey decided to move on from their respective posts. With that, questions rose about whether this current iteration of the Rockets, headlined by James Harden and Russell Westbrook, will stick this coming 2020-21 season.
Via Kurt Helin of NBC Sports, Houston insider Jonathan Feigen believes the Harden-Westbrook core will stand for now.
Rumors about Houston blowing it up by making their franchise cornerstone in Harden available in trade talks heated up especially after Morey's exit. The former Rockets GM had been responsible for constructing the roster around Harden ever since he acquired the bearded superstar in 2012.
Feigen added that Harden and Westbrook will vouch for John Lucas to take over as the team's next coach to replace D'Antoni. Given that the Rockets are still seeking the input of the two stars, it seems very likely that the two will still share the Houston backcourt whenever the 2020-21 season rolls on.
Rafael Stone, the man who replaced Morey as GM, will certainly have his work cut out for him this off-season. The Rockets have a limited championship window due to the ages of Harden and Westbrook, both of whom are 31 years old. In addition, Morey left him with very little assets to work with after trading majority of their draft capital to acquire Westbrook.
This will definitely be an interesting off-season for the Rockets.
