The Utah Jazz suffered a huge upset on Monday as they were defeated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in a hard-fought encounter. Rudy Gobert was at the center of a defensive blunder that led to the Wolves stealing away the unlikely victory against the mighty Jazz.

After the disappointing loss, Gobert made it clear that he was fully accountable for that costly defensive error (h/t Tim MacMahon of ESPN):

In case you did not catch it, here's a look at the play in question:

Gobert rushed to defend Karl-Anthony Towns on the inbound pass and he failed to recognize that he had left D'Angelo Russell all alone for a wide-open lay-up. It looks like there was a bit of miscommunication between Gobert and Mike Conley on this play, with the latter also opting to defend KAT on the inbound.

True enough, Jazz coach Quin Snyder revealed after the game that the error was between Gobert and Conley:

This is truly a disappointing way to lose a game, especially against an 18-44 Wolves side. I guess the silver lining here is that this blunder happened during a regular-season game. This would have been catastrophic in the playoffs, and these are the types of plays that could end the season for any team.

We have to give credit to Gobert though, for his willingness to accept his error. He did not look for any excuses as he took full responsibility for Monday's loss —  their second against Minnesota in the span of three days. The Phoenix Suns also won on Monday and they are now just half a game behind the Jazz for the top spot in the West.
