The Utah Jazz were defeated by the Los Angeles Lakers, 101-95 on Monday night. Jazz star guard Donovan Mitchell struggled through a lackluster shooting performance, as he failed to make a single three-point attempt in the loss. On Tuesday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski revealed a shocking Mitchell injury that helps explain the Jazz star's poor shooting in the loss to the Lakers.

Per Wojnarowski, Jazz star Donovan Mitchell has entered the concussion protocols. The injury reportedly occurred during the second quarter of Monday's loss to the Lakers.

As reported by Wojnarowski, Mitchell experienced symptoms following the game Monday. The injury helps explain the Jazz star's down performance, as he shot just 6-for-19 from the field while missing all eight three-pointers.

The poor effort was odd, considering that Mitchell had poured in 30-plus points in three of his previous four games coming into the contest against the Lakers. The struggles make a bit more sense now.

Mitchell has been ruled out for Wednesday's scheduled game against the Houston Rockets. The Jazz star's next chance to return to action will be on Friday against the Detroit Pistons.

Wings such as Joe Ingles and Jordan Clarkson will be tasked with shouldering the extra scoring load on Wednesday against the Rockets, though the Jazz will have the benefit of playing a lesser opponent without their best player.
