With the New York Jets suddenly in the market for a new general manager, one name that is being floated around is Joe Douglas, who is currently the vice president of player personnel of the Philadelphia Eagles.  Douglas is very close to current Jets head coach Adam Gase so it would make a lot of sense for the two sides to get a deal done if there is mutual interest.

Rumors were swirling all the way back in April that Douglas could take over for Mike Maccagnan when he was let go.

It was still a bit of a surprise that the Jets let Maccagnan go, especially after they let him run everything this offseason. Maccagnan drafted Sam Darnold last season, but he has had struggles drafting in the past which could be a reason they let him go with two years left in the contract.

Douglas was hired in 2016 by the Eagles and has been vital in constructing a Super Bowl-caliber roster. He was key in bringing in guys Timmy Jernigan, running back Jordan Howard, cornerback Cre’Von LeBlanc, and the key signing Alshon Jeffery.

Howie Roseman has raved about how important Douglas has been for the Eagles in their time together, and he seems like the perfect candidate to take over in the Big Apple.

It's unclear how quickly the Jets would like to hire their next general manager, but for now, it is Adam Gase that has taken over the role on an interim basis. The Jets have a roster filled with young talent, so it's critical they get this hire right.
