It’s no longer a secret that Arizona Cardinals cornerback Peterson is unhappy of the direction his team is heading, which is why he’s reportedly convincing the franchise to trade him away just before the NFL’s trade deadline on Oc. 30. Among the teams that have shown interest in trading for Peterson are the New York Jets, though, the Cardinals have already seemingly shut the door on them, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

Either the Cardinals don’t see any interesting asset that the Jets have for them to cough up Patrick Peterson or they simply are not keen on giving up their star secondary piece.

Despite Peterson’s insinuations to get traded, the Cardinals remain adamant that they’re not going to do, as evidenced by this direct statement from Arizona head coach Steve Wilks, per Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

On paper, the Jets do look like a team that can use proven defensive weapon like Peterson. They are 17th in the league with 25.1 points allowed per game. They are also just 21st against the pass with 266.0 passing yards surrendered per contest. Opponents are also completing 63.03 percent of their passes, good for only 12th in the NFL.

Currently, the Jets have Trumaine Johnson and Morris Claiborne slated as their starting cornerbacks, while Daryl Roberts and Buster Skrine acting as backups.
