The New York Jets recently made the move to name Joe Douglas as their new general manager. The new GM has already taken a liking for Sam Darnold.

When asked about the Jets starting quarterback, Douglas said that he loves Darnold's “infectious” energy.

“I love his energy,” Douglas said per Steve Serby of the New York Post. I think he had an infectious energy, and I think he’s got a real love of this game, and I think he has an intense desire to get better every day. He just comes across as a genuine young man that wants to get better and wants to be coached. And I think he’s got the right people around here to do that.”

This should come as a great sign for Jets fans after the fallout with former GM Mike Maccagnan. Furthermore, Maccagnan was fired as the Jets GM earlier this offseason with Adam Gase assuming the interim role.

Then, New York wasted no time in finding their guy in Douglas. Before the Jets, Douglas served as the Philadelphia Eagles Vice President of Player Personnel 2016-2018.

Therefore, Douglas played a crucial role in the Eagles putting together a roster to win the Super Bowl in 2017. Hopefully, Douglas can build a winning roster in New York to mirror what the Eagles did a couple of years ago.

Nonetheless, it seems like Douglas and Darnold have gotten off on the right foot. Plus, there seems to be a nice relationship between Gase and Douglas which is key to the team moving in the right direction.

The 2019 season is going to be an important one for the Jets franchise but Darnold's energy and play on the field in year two can help right the ship for the Jets.
