Earlier this offseason, New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas said that he wanted to make safety Jamal Adams a Jet for life, and Adams seemed very amenable to signing a contract extension.

Well, here we are in mid-April, and nothing has come to fruition yet.

As a matter of fact, Adams does not even plan on participating in the Jets' virtual offseason program. That's because the organization has apparently shown no interest in extending him thus far, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

This is hardly the first time there have been issues between Adams and New York's front office.

At the trade deadline back in October, reports surfaced that the Jets were shopping Adams. Which peeved him enough to get on Twitter and take shots at the organization. Adams ultimately stayed put, and afterward, New York ensured Adams that it was not trying to move him.

Things appeared to be just fine between the two sides from that point moving forward. But now, it seems that the Jets may have irked Adams yet again.

Adams is coming off of a strong 2019 campaign. He played 14 games and racked up 75 tackles, 6.5 sacks, an interception, and a couple of forced fumbles. Adams was named to a Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was originally selected by New York with the sixth overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

It didn't take Adams long to establish himself as one of the league's best safeties, as he made the Pro Bowl as soon as his second season.
