The relationship between New York Jets head coach Adam Gase and running back Le'Veon Bell did not exactly get off on the right foot, as rumors persisted that Gase had Mike Maccagnan fired from his post as general manager due to his decision to sign Bell, which Gase did not want to do.

The chatter went as far to say that Gase was actually considering trading Bell.

Obviously, that did not come to fruition, but you can't help but think things were going to be awkward between Gase and Bell regardless of the fact that Bell was not dealt.

But it seems that Bell has warmed up to Gase, heaping praise upon him in training camp:

“I think so, just because of the fact that you’ve got a mastermind in Adam Gase,” Bell said when asked if the Jets' offense can be special, according to Andy Vasquez of NorthJersey.com. “He’s unbelievable. I literally watch him in practice and the way he calls plays, and things like that, he’s like very intelligent about how to call plays and put guys in the right situation. It’s really hard to try to stop all the options he has open.”

Gase then went on to say that the Jets are experimenting with using Bell in a lot of different ways and that the three-time Pro Bowler seems very open to just about anything New York is trying:

“He has been great about trying things he hasn't done before and it's been effective out here,” Gase said. “I think he's excited that it's not same as for him. He's getting to try to do different things and if it's not a good thing he says, “Hey, I don't know about that,” but he hasn't said that yet, so we'll just keep trying to as many things as possible.”

Bell did not play at all in 2018 due to a contract dispute with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He last appeared in 2017, rushing for 1,291 yards and nine touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection.
