The New York Jets have released running back Le'Veon Bell, yet another significant roster dislocation for a franchise going nowhere quickly.

By releasing Bell, the Jets are going to have $15 million in dead cap for the 2020 season and $4 million in dead cap in 2021. Altogether, Bell garnered a total of $28 million in 18 games with the Jets.

Ever since New York hired Adam Gase last season, he and Bell haven't had the best of relationships. After reports surfaced of Gase not wanting Bell in free agency, there were rumors that New York attempted to trade him.

But after trying to move him since last season, the Jets were unable to get anything in return for the disgruntled running back. At the same time, Bell will likely have a few teams that express interest in his services.

One wonders what this will do to change the calculus surrounding the futures of Jets head coach Adam Gase and quarterback Sam Darnold.
