After being cut by the New York Giants, quarterback Davis Webb won't have to switch addresses as he has been signed to the New York Jets practice squad, the team announced.

A third-round pick last year, the Giants shocked a lot of people by releasing him. He struggled in the first preseason game and there were some questions if he could be the Giants backup quarterback but he turned around his game and looked better during the rest of the preseason.

After the second preseason game Giants coach Pat Shurmur had nothing but praise for the young quarterback, which makes the move even more shocking.

“I was very happy to see Davis Webb bounce back that well as a starter,” Giants coach Pat Shurmur said via USA Today. “He made significant improvements from last week to this week, and that shows why we have so much confidence in him. I thought he was calmer and he did a very nice job.”

The backup for the Giants is now Alex Tanney who has been an NFL journeyman and has never really shown anything great. If Eli Manning gets hurt and they are forced to turn to their backup it's not going to spell good news for the team.

According to Ian Rapport of NFL Network, Webb will be played a full salary while on the practice squad and will join Sam Darnold and Josh McCown in the quarterback room. This will be a good development spot for him as he tries to get back to an active roster.
