Earlier this week, the Kansas City Chiefs decided to part ways with veteran running back Charcandrick West after four seasons with the team.

It hasn't taken long for West to find a new home in the league as he has inked a deal to join the New York Jets for this upcoming season, according to Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network.

During his four years with the Chiefs, West had earned a consistent role out of the backfield. However, he had seen that decrease drastically this past season with the arrival of standout rookie Kareem Hunt, who put together a stellar 2017 campaign that saw him lead the league in rushing and win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. West was limited to only 18 carries for 72 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns along with 27 receptions for 150 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

West will likely take on a backup role in New York with Bilal Powell and Isaiah Crowell taking up much of the duties out of the backfield this upcoming season. The addition of the 27-year-old was likely to add more depth to the position on the roster as he has shown he can be a dual-threat option with his ability to impact the game as both a runner and receiver out of the backfield. This could help him earn a consistent role in the offense in the 2018 season if he can prove that in practice and the rest of the preseason.

This is a late offseason addition, which has put West in the position of having to pick up the offense in a short period of time over the next few weeks. The Jets will likely bring him along progressively as he gets acquainted with his new surroundings and playbook for the first time in his NFL career.
