The New York Jets have made news by giving Robby Anderson a second-round tender heading into free agency. The tender is around $3 million and gives any team a chance to offer Anderson a contract.

The Jets can match any offer though unless they decide to let him go to another team. If another team is able to sign him without the Jets matching, they will need to forfeit their second-round pick.

This likely secures Anderson staying with the Jets for the short-term future. This move also comes after the Jets decided to extend Quincy Enunwa to a four-year, $36 million deal.

Anderson was a restricted free agent this offseason so the Jets had the ultimate say if they wanted to keep him or not.

Since 2016, Anderson has totaled 155 receptions for 2,280 yards and 15 touchdowns. He has really solidified himself as a dangerous deep threat the last two seasons.

Retaining Anderson is important to the Jets as they look to possibly add more depth at the wide receiver spot come free agency. Continuity is important for young quarterbacks like Sam Darnold.

Darnold had success with Anderson in 2018. Anderson had a career-high 15 yards per reception and a career-long 76-yard catch.

One of the only things keeping the Jets from giving Anderson a long-term deal is his off the field issues. Before 2018, Anderson was facing a suspension after being arrested in Florida.

New York has plenty of money to mess around with this offseason. They have around $102 million in cap space (second-most in NFL) and have plenty of needs.

One of those needs is a wide receiver, although tendering Anderson at least provides some stability at the position moving forward.
