Jets QB Sam Darnold reacts to New York hiring GM Joe Douglas
The New York Jets recently made a move to hire Joe Douglas as their new general manager. Already, it seems as if Sam Darnold is fully on board with the hiring of Douglas.
At one of his youth football camps, the media spoke to Darnold about the Jets decision to hire Douglas for the position. All in all, he said it is “reassuring” to see the front office bring in someone like Douglas.
“You definitely see what he’s done and how he’s helped an organization out and it definitely is reassuring,” Darnold said Saturday morning during a youth football camp he hosted at LIU Post.
The Jets quarterback should have plenty to be excited about his new GM. Although, it is early, so for now it seems like a very good move on paper.
Earlier this offseason, New York decided to fire Mike Maccagnan as their GM. In a corresponding move, Adam Gase was named their interim GM. Now, Douglas slots into the GM role and figures to help make moves as he sees fit.
Before joining the Jets, Douglas served as the Philadelphia Eagles’ Vice President of Player Personnel since 2016. His ability to make moves helped the Eagles build a roster talented enough to take down the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 52.
Jets fans and Darnold are joyful with the hiring of Douglas, but will want to see results sooner rather than later. Besides, if Douglas can replicate his success from Philadelphia, the Jets will become a competitive franchise again.
